Weekly Ad, Coupons
& Savings Tips
The famous 40%-off-one-item coupon isn't the deal it used to be. Here's what replaced it, which departments are marked down right now, and the month each category hits its floor price — so you stop paying sticker.

What's marked down right now
Hobby Lobby's ad runs on a Sunday-to-Saturday cycle. Because the stores are closed on Sundays, the new prices are effectively live the moment you walk in Monday morning — and the smart move is to check the ad Saturday night, before the previous week's markdowns disappear.
Fall & Harvest Decor
Full department, in store and online. First markdown of the season.
Summer Clearance
Last call — what remains goes deeper the week it ships out.
Fabric by the Yard
Cotton prints and fleece. Get it cut before Saturday.
Custom Framing
Runs most weeks — never pay the posted framing price.
Two things are worth knowing about how this ad behaves. First, it is genuinely weekly — a department that is 40% off today may be back at full marked price on Monday, and there is no grace period. Second, the ad and the standing department discounts do not always stack. When a department that already carries a permanent markdown appears in the ad, the ad price usually replaces it rather than compounding on top. Read the tag, read the ad, and take whichever number is lower rather than assuming they add together.
The practical rhythm for a regular shopper looks like this: glance at the new ad Monday morning, note anything on your want list, and go mid-week when the store is quiet and the shelves have been restocked from the weekend. Saturday is the busiest day by a wide margin, and it is also the day the current week's prices expire.

Deal of the day
Hobby Lobby is unbeatable on framing, floral and seasonal decor. It is regularly beaten on bulk consumables — the glue sticks, canvas multipacks and paint sets you burn through. Here's today's pick from the consumables side of the ledger.
Bulk hot glue stick multipack
You will use two hundred of these. Buying them by the dozen at retail is how craft budgets quietly die.
Stretched canvas value pack
Identical blank canvas, sold by the ten-pack. The savings scale with how much you actually paint.
Acrylic paint set, 24+ colours
Craft acrylic is craft acrylic. Buy the big set once instead of single tubes forever.
Floral wire & stem tape bundle
Wreath-making consumables you re-buy every season. Bulk is not even close.
Adhesive vinyl sheet bundle
For Cricut and Silhouette users — sheet counts online run several times deeper per dollar.
Craft supply storage caddy
The one purchase that stops you re-buying scissors you already own.
Heat-transfer vinyl starter set
Shirt blanks are worth buying in store. The HTV is not.
Next pick unlocks in a few hours. Prices on the retailer's site are always current — we deliberately don't quote them here, because a stale price helps nobody.
The discounts that never expire
This is the part most shoppers miss. Several departments carry a standing discount off the marked price, every single day, with no coupon and no ad. If you've been waiting for a sale on furniture or jewelry findings, you've been waiting for something that already happened.
Home Decor
Wall decor, canvas art, wood and metal pieces — off the marked price, every day.
Furniture
Marked pieces in store and online. Rarely gets deeper than this, so timing barely matters.
Jewelry Making
Beads, findings, stringing supplies. The tag is not the price.
Art Supplies
House-brand paints, brushes and pads carry a standing discount.
Fabric
Cut yardage sits at a standing markdown, with deeper ad weeks layered on top.
Wearable Art
Blanks, tees and iron-ons for anyone selling on Etsy.
Buy now, or wait?
Tap what you are shopping for. Categories with a standing discount are already at their floor. Seasonal categories are not — and the verdict tells you when they will be.

What will this cart actually cost?
Shelf tags at Hobby Lobby are frequently pre-discount. Pick a department and set your running total — this shows what the register is likely to say, plus what a cash-back app would pull back on top.
Estimate only — sales tax, ad prices and clearance stickers will move the real number.
Where each item is genuinely cheaper
Fifteen years of craft-store receipts boils down to a simple split: Hobby Lobby wins on anything they mark up and permanently discount, and on anything you need to see before buying. Online bulk wins on repeat consumables where brand doesn't matter. Tap any column heading to sort.
| Item | Hobby Lobby's angle | Buy-online angle | Better value | Check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Custom picture framing | Standing framing promos most weeks; you see the moulding in person | Online framing services rarely beat it once shipping is added | Hobby Lobby | Browse |
| Silk & stem florals | Enormous selection, standing department discount | Hard to judge colour on screen; returns are a pain | Hobby Lobby | Browse |
| Seasonal & holiday decor | Post-holiday clearance is among the deepest in retail | Rarely competitive except on generic items | Hobby Lobby | Browse |
| Hot glue sticks | Convenient, but priced per small pack | Sold by the hundred for a fraction per stick | Buy online | Compare |
| Stretched canvas | Fine for one-off large sizes | Multipacks in standard sizes are far cheaper | Buy online | Compare |
| Craft acrylic paint | Good for matching a single colour today | Large sets crush the per-colour cost | Buy online | Compare |
| Adhesive & heat-transfer vinyl | Limited sheet counts at retail pricing | Bundles are dramatically cheaper per sheet | Buy online | Compare |
| Fabric by the yard | You can feel the weight and see the true colour | Cheaper per yard but you are guessing on hand-feel | Depends | Compare |
| Yarn | Good ad weeks; you can squeeze the skein | Better for bulk of one dyelot | Depends | Compare |
| Beads & findings | Standing discount, browse-friendly | Bulk findings online are cheaper by volume | Buy online | Compare |
| Wood & unfinished pieces | Standing home decor discount applies | Comparable, sometimes cheaper in multipacks | Depends | Compare |
| Scrapbook paper & cardstock | Huge single-sheet selection | Bulk cardstock packs win on cost per sheet | Buy online | Compare |

The markdown calendar
Craft retail runs on a predictable seasonal clock. Merchandise arrives roughly two seasons early, sits at full margin, gets an ad week or two, then falls off a cliff the moment the holiday passes. Learn the clock and you rarely pay full price again.
Christmas at the floor, Valentine's arriving
The single best week of the year for ribbon, ornaments, wrap and craft trees — leftovers reach their yearly low. Yarn also clears as winter stock rotates out. Buy a year of gift wrap now and forget about it until December.
Valentine's dumps, spring lands
Hearts and reds fall hard the morning of the 15th. Spring florals and Easter arrive at full margin — note what you want and come back in April. Wedding supplies start their first real ad cycle of the year.
Spring shop and St Patrick's
Green everything gets an ad week, then evaporates. The spring shop takes its first markdown late in the month. A quiet, good month for fabric and general craft consumables.
Easter clears fast
Easter merchandise has the shortest shelf life in the store — it goes deep within days. Spring decor keeps sliding. If you decorate for spring, this is your month, not March.
Wedding and graduation peak
Highest-margin month for floral and wedding. Prices are not great, but selection peaks. Patio and outdoor decor starts its cycle. Buy graduation supplies the week after the ceremonies.
Summer decor, floral resets
Summer decor gets its ad weeks. Silk florals hit a genuine low as the department resets for fall. Good month for the consumables people stockpile for summer camps and kids' projects.
Summer starts sliding, fall arrives
Patriotic clears immediately after the 4th. Fall merchandise starts landing while summer is still on shelf — the overlap week is one of the best browsing weeks of the year.
Fall's first markdown, back-to-school
Fall and harvest take their first ad discount even though it feels early. Art supplies get a back-to-school push. Summer clearance goes deep enough to be worth a trip on its own.
Fall peaks, Christmas appears
Fall decor is fully out and rotating through ad weeks. Christmas stock starts appearing — resist it, because the whole department will be marked down before you need it.
Halloween falls, Christmas builds
Halloween drops the morning of November 1st and it is dramatic. Fall decor is at its best combination of selection and price during the first half of the month.
Christmas ad weeks begin
Christmas decor starts rotating through 40% ad weeks — this is where you buy trees, ribbon and ornaments if you want selection. Thanksgiving items clear the moment the plates are washed.
The pre-Christmas slide
Christmas markdowns deepen weekly through the month. The week before Christmas is the sweet spot: real selection still on shelf, prices already cut. After the 26th, it is a scramble.
Twelve things that actually save money
Not "sign up for the newsletter." Real mechanics — the ones that come from standing at that register often enough to notice the patterns.
Check the ad Saturday night, shop Monday
Because the doors are shut on Sunday, the "new week" is really a Monday event. Reading Saturday tells you whether to buy today at the old price or wait forty-eight hours for the new one.
Treat the shelf tag as a starting number
In departments with a standing discount, the tag is deliberately the pre-discount figure. Newcomers walk out thinking the store is expensive because they never watched the register.
Claim the price adjustment
Buy something at full price, see it in next week's ad, bring the receipt back within the posted window. Stores honour this routinely and almost nobody asks.
Learn the two-week rule on holidays
Nothing seasonal holds its price past the holiday. If you can decorate a year ahead, you are effectively buying at a permanent discount that no coupon has ever matched.
Don't wait for a general coupon
The always-available percent-off coupon is no longer something to plan around. Building your trip around a coupon that may not exist is how people end up paying full price out of frustration.
Stack a cash-back portal on top
Because there is no code to enter, portals are the only layer that applies to every purchase regardless of department or week. Small per trip, meaningful per year.
Photograph the clearance sticker sequence
Clearance tags escalate in predictable steps. Once you learn what the current sticker colour means in your store, you know whether to grab it or gamble on one more markdown.
Buy consumables online, buy judgement items in store
Glue, vinyl, canvas and cardstock are commodities — buy them by volume. Anything where colour, drape or scale matters is worth seeing first.
Use the app for department alerts
Push notifications land before you would think to check the site, which matters when a department only gets one ad week a quarter.
Don't count on a price match
They generally do not match competitors, and they do not match their own past pricing outside the adjustment window. Plan around their calendar, not someone else's.
Watch the shipping threshold
Free shipping promotions come and go rather than sitting there permanently. If one is live and you have a list, that is the trip to consolidate.
Keep a running want list, not a shopping list
The single highest-return habit. Note what you want, wait for its department week, buy it then. This one change beats every coupon strategy combined.
Three layers, one purchase
With the general coupon retired, the shoppers who still save meaningfully are stacking sources rather than hunting a single code. There are only three layers worth bothering with.
Time the tag
Buy inside the ad week for your department, or wait for the post-holiday slide. This is the biggest single lever and it costs nothing but patience.
Pay through a portal
Cash-back sites and receipt-scanning apps pay a percentage back on the same purchase you were making anyway. It is the closest thing left to a standing coupon.
Claim the adjustment
If something you paid full price for lands in next week's ad, bring the receipt back. Most shoppers never do — it is free money sitting in your purse.
Straight answers
Does Hobby Lobby still have the 40% off coupon?
Not as the reliable, always-there offer it once was. The coupon policy changed and shoppers should stop planning trips around it. What replaced it is a combination of standing department discounts and the rotating weekly ad — which, for most baskets, works out better than one coupon on one item ever did.
When does the weekly ad change?
It runs on a Sunday-through-Saturday cycle. Since the stores are closed Sundays, the practical start of a new ad week is Monday morning. Online, the new prices go live with the cycle.
Why are the stores closed on Sunday?
It is a long-standing company policy tied to the founding family's convictions. For shoppers, the practical effect is that Saturday is the busiest day of the week and Monday is the quietest — and Monday is when the new markdowns are freshest.
Can I use the ad price online?
Most ad discounts run online and in store, but some items are store-only and some clearance is online-only. The ad itself flags the exceptions, so read the small print before you build a cart.
Does Hobby Lobby price match?
Generally no — not competitors, and not their own earlier pricing outside the receipt adjustment window. That is why timing matters more here than at retailers who will match anyone.
What does "always 40% off the marked price" actually mean?
It means the shelf tag is not the checkout price for that department. Home decor, jewelry-making supplies and several other categories carry a permanent discount applied at the register. It is not a sale and it does not expire.
Is the clearance section worth checking?
It is often the best value in the building, particularly in the two weeks after any holiday, where reduced seasonal stock reaches the deepest markdowns of the year. Selection is picked over, so go early in the slide rather than late.
Do they run free shipping?
Free shipping appears as a limited promotion tied to an order threshold rather than as a permanent policy. Check the site banner at checkout — if one is live, that is the week to consolidate an online order.
Is it cheaper than buying craft supplies online?
It depends entirely on the item. On framing, florals and seasonal decor, it is very hard to beat. On repeat consumables sold by volume — glue, vinyl, canvas, cardstock — online bulk usually wins by a wide margin.
What is the best month to shop?
January, without much competition. Christmas leftovers reach their lowest point of the year, yarn clears, and the store is quiet. If you can shop a season ahead, January and the first half of November do most of the heavy lifting.
